Expressions is actually 2 programs in one! Level 1, pictured below, offers a way
for students to work independently, beginning on an item selected by you and configured
to present 3, 4 or 5 multiple choices - you decide. Students can also hear the
text by clicking on the "ears," making this level excellent for ESL
students and children too young to know all the words. Session percentages and
time can be dislayed as illustrated. | | | Level
2 is designed specifically for use with a teacher or therapist. On this level,
4 of 100 selections can be dragged to the four boxes pictured in the center. The
student can then click on "Caption," which randomly displays one of
the four expressions for discussion. The instructor can score the item in any
way she chooses by clicking the "+" or "-" buttons, which
changes the percentage display in the center. | | | In
addition, any picture selected can be enlarged for discussion. Sessions can be
saved and printed . | | | Common
Expressions is great for use in both independent and highly structured settings,
and for ESL work. It affords an excellent way to spur a critical thinking dialogue
about concrete versus abstract meanings. | | |
